Thanks for your interest in The Philmont Trader!

Owned and operated by Christine Friello-Ryan, a local Philmont resident, and staffed by our director of sales Kathleen Boysen, The Philmont Trader LLC specializes in affordable antiques, collectibles, gifts, artworks, children's fashions and toys, jewelry, second hand and consignment items, and generally all-around useful stuff!

Opening in May of 2006, our first six months were very interesting and a learning experience in the needs of a small diverse village.  Although The Philmont Trader started out it's life wanting to be a "Hudson-quality" antiques store, it rapidly evolved into a general consignment shop that is providing what we believe is an important niche service.  We are proud to say that we have merchandise in the shop from over forty consignors including over ten members of our Local Artisans Network.

Our mission has evolved into one of recycling and providing goods to community members who may not be able to afford to shop elsewhere. It has also become a place for community interaction.  We have made many friends who are dedicated customers and return to shop often.  Although we have most likely lost the more upscale profitable audience we were originally after, we have gained a steady clientele of senior citizens, young mothers and fathers, and folks who are just generally looking for a good bargain and friendly conversation. We certainly are not making enough income to cover all the expenses involved.  However, we believe in what we are doing and are hopeful that as more affluent community members realize the service we are providing, they will patronize our shop in support of it.

The Philmont Trader is proud to be a player in supporting the growth of Main Street commerce, encouraging recycling of useful objects, and creating employment opportunities for the Philmont community.  In addition, we are proud to sponsor our local artisans through the Local Artisans Network, promoting the sales of original handcrafted works by members of our network.  We welcome the addition of new members to our artisans community!
